My
8th grade math teacher, Mr. Lambe, was one of those teachers that
taught me as much about life as he did algebra. I looked forward to
going to his class, as long as I didn't get stuck sitting in the front
row, as he had a tendency to spit a little when he talked excitedly
about solving for x! Anyway, the best thing that Mr. Lambe taught me
was that there is more than one way to do things more than one way.
Read it again and let it sink in. What a true statement! This little
phrase has stuck with me all of my life, and it applies to so many
subject matters, including photography!
Keeping true to Mr. Lambe's life theory, there is yet another way to control the background of your photo; move the photographer! Moving you (the photographer) away from the subject will keep more of the background in focus. Here is another example:
I kept my camera settings the same for both of the photos & Smurfette did not move, but I did.
Paying attention to distance between you, your subject, and the background can greatly change the look of your photo! And if you are reading this Mr. Lambe, thank you for teaching me a very important life lesson!
